Estimated initial investment, line by line

The headline range is a sum of parts. The parts tell you more than the total.

A franchise's estimated initial investment usually comes as one wide range. That range is built from separate line items: the initial franchise fee, build-out or leasehold improvements, equipment, opening inventory, signage, training travel, deposits, and an "additional funds" amount for the first months of operation.

    Why we show the lines

Two brands with the same total can be very different. One may put most of its range into real estate build-out. Another may lean on working capital. The total hides that, and the lines show it.

    What the range is not

The range is the franchisor's estimate for opening. It is not a quote, and it doesn't include everything an owner might spend. Some estimates leave out real estate purchase, financing costs, or the owner's salary.

    How we present it

On every brand report we show the low and high ends exactly as the franchisor states them. We label the year the estimate comes from and link each figure to its source. We don't average the two ends or present a "likely" cost.
