    Franchised vs. company-owned units

Two kinds of outlets, often reported separately, and they don't always move together.

Many systems run some outlets themselves alongside outlets owned by franchisees.

    Why the split matters

Company-owned outlets may have different staffing, locations, or support than franchised ones. When performance figures include both, the combined number may not reflect a franchisee's experience.

    What to look for

    • Whether a performance figure covers franchised units, company units, or both
    • How many of each the system has
    • Whether the franchisor is selling company units to franchisees, or buying franchised units back

    How we report it

We keep the two groups separate wherever the source does. When a figure combines them, the source panel says so. System size on a brand report always states which outlets are counted.
