Reading SBA lending data for what it is

Loan counts show where lenders have lent. They don't show how owners did.

The U.S. Small Business Administration publishes data on loans it has guaranteed, including loans to franchise businesses.

    What it shows

How many SBA-backed loans went to a franchise brand, in which years, and for what total amount.

    What it does not show

The data doesn't show whether a business succeeded, repaid its loan on schedule, or turned a profit. A high loan count reflects lending activity, which is also tied to how many units a brand sells.

    How we use it

We label SBA figures as historical lending activity, show the year range, and mark whether the brand match is confirmed. We don't treat lending volume as a measure of franchisee success.
